Introducing Robotin R2: A Modular Home Robot Platform for Developers

Hello Open Robotics community!

I’m reaching out to share an exciting project we’ve been working on: Robotin R2, a modular home robot platform designed to support a range of household tasks, starting with carpet washing and deep vacuuming. We believe there’s a real opportunity to evolve this platform into something much more versatile, and we’re excited to open up the potential for developers to contribute to its growth.

Here’s a bit about what we’re doing:

Versatile and Expandable:
Robotin R2 is designed with expansion in mind. While it currently focuses on carpet washing and vacuuming, the system can accommodate additional modules, like autonomous arms for tasks such as organizing or even storing items.

Developer-Centric:
Our goal is to create an ecosystem where developers can design and integrate new features, whether for home automation, cleaning solutions, or other novel applications. The flexibility of the platform allows for endless possibilities for innovation.

VLA (Versatile Living Assistant):
We envision Robotin R2 evolving into a multi-functional household assistant. Our ultimate goal is to reduce the burden of everyday chores—making “Robot In, Chores Out” a reality. And we hope to collaborate with you all to make that happen.

Why is this exciting?

  • Collaborate on innovative solutions: Help shape the future of home robotics.
  • Developer-friendly integration: With user-friendly APIs and SDKs, integrating your own modules is straightforward.
  • A global community: We’re aiming to unite developers worldwide to shape the next generation of home robotics and intelligent living.

If you’re interested in exploring this further or contributing, feel free to follow along as we continue to develop the platform. We’re also open to any feedback, ideas, or collaborations that align with our vision.

Looking forward to connecting with the community!

Best regards,
The Robotin Team

@Jun_Long you are posting on a ROS forum and you say that you are “opening the platform to developers”, yet you do not say whether this is using ROS or point to any documentation to your “easy-to-use APIs and SDKs”. If you don’t want us to misunderstand your (multiple) postings as ads, then please make an effort to help us understand how to develop software for your robots using ROS. Given your robot’s form-factor, I believe you may also want to explain why anyone would want to consider it over a Turtlebot.

ROS-Enabled Development
The Robotin R2 platform is ROS (Robot Operating System) compatible, allowing developers to build and integrate their modules within a familiar and powerful development environment. Whether you’re working on automation, sensors, or any other robotic features, ROS provides the flexibility and tools to bring your ideas to life.

So Robotin R2 is just another carpet cleaner? Seriously, if you want a ROS2-compatible robot vacuum cleaner, there are many options available. If you want, you can even build one yourself at a reasonable cost. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/robotin/robotin-r2-worlds-first-robot-carpet-cleaner?lang=de

The Robotin R2’s YouTube teaser at the end showcases a robotic arm module. It’s not just limited to wash, dry, and vacuum functions—there will also be an independent robotic arm with a Versatile Living Assistant (VLA). Other options may not have this level of integration.

I’m here not to promote a product, but to share ideas and collaborate with fellow developers.
