The Principle Software Engineer is responsible for leading strategy and development of robotic middleware solutions for autonomous marine robotics.

You will collaborate with members of the new product development team on the integration of middleware solutions to enable advanced autonomy on marine robotic systems. This position is located in either Pocasset, MA on Cape Cod or in Cambridge, MA. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and creative software engineer to be a part of multiple exciting robotic-based development projects that include autonomous subsea vehicle sensor integration, vehicle control, navigation, and simulation.
The successful candidate will:
• Work with engineering leadership, business development, program management, and customers to establish strategy and implementation plans for robotics middleware solutions.
• Ensure strategy is aligned with the program technical vision and meets all requirements.
• Represent the company by providing technical leadership internal and external to Hydroid.
• Mentor/train software development organization on middleware fundamentals.
• Contribute to continuous process improvement.
• Manage schedules, meet and adhere to development goals.
• Provide planning and status information to project manager.
Qualifications:
Master’s or PhD level in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field.
•7 - 10 years of experience in software development in a real-time operating system environment in C/C++ preferred.
•Must have a strong working knowledge of programming and design relating to robotic systems.
•Experience developing test procedures and testing modules desired.
•Excellent communication and documentation skills.
•Air, sea, or land-based autonomous robotics industry a plus.
•Comfortable in a fast-paced, nimble development environment.
•Some travel is associated with this role to support customer meetings and industry conferences.
•Development and implementation of robotics software platforms for autonomous systems.
•Experience leading software development projects from concept through completion.
•Experience with the creation of a fully functional product.
•Experience testing robots.
•Versed in sensor integration and 3D navigation.
•Entrepreneurial experience in robotics, AI, sensors, automotive.
•Proficiency with ROS (in C/C++) required.
•Experience with multi-threaded and multi-process programming desired.
•Ability to obtain a US Government Department of Defense Security Clearance required.
