ROS PMC Minutes for May 20, 2025

The ROS PMC meeting for this week was on Tuesday. The notes from the meeting are available at ROS 2 PMC weekly meeting agenda - May 20, 2025

PMC Business

  • No formal PMC business today.

Ongoing Tasks

  • Buildfarm:

    • PTAL: Buildfarm Issues Triage Sheet
    • @cottsay believes that the rmw_cyclone_dds issue is due to lack of isolation and that using rmw_test_fixture will resolve it
    • @mjcarroll hasn’t had a change to look at the python failures, coverage jobs have been failing for quite some time, so they are going to be disabled until someone repairs and pays attention to them.
  • Waffle assignments:

  • Rosdistro Assignments

  • ROS Bosses:

    • Christophe on behalf of Audrow (Humble)
      • Synclast week
    • Shane (Noetic)
      *Final sync freee
    • Marco (Jazzy)
      • No updates
    • Yadu (Rolling)
      • No updates

Kilted Development

  • Distro freeze on 5/20
  • Release on 5/23

Agenda Items

  • @JM_ROS ROS_LOCALHOST_ONLY was removed and deprecated before jazzy, and with kilted all checks that warned you, that you use an outdated feature were also removed. The problem that I see now, is that about every stackoverflow post, and chatgpt tell you to use ROS_LOCALHOST_ONLY and that a user has no way any more to figure out that setting the env variable does nothing. I therefore propose, to keep warnings on outdated env variables basically forever in the client libraries**

As a reminder, ROS PMC meetings are open to the public, though only committers and members may speak without being called on. If you have topics that you would like discussed, feel free to respond here.

What is the next step for Update REP-2017 prototype and executor using OS native threads?

I would expect this to be a topic for the ROS PMC agenda?

@JRTG thanks for bringing that up.

Looking at the original PR, that has been there for 2 years… https://github.com/ros-infrastructure/rep/pull/385

@mjcarroll probably we could invite the author to share overview in PMC meeting?

Yes, thanks for bringing it up.

Happy to resume discussion as I believe that there has recently been traffic.

I think we could discuss it either in the PMC, or have a more focused discussion in the client library working group before raising it to the PMC level. Either way, I think it is a productive topic.

@k-yokoyama-esol would you be interested in attending the PMC meeting to present/discuss what you have?
