ROS 2 rolling distribution name brainstorming

It is time for a bonus brainstorming thread as we have an extra ROS distribution to name this time around. As described in the ROS 2 rolling distribution plans) post, a new ROS 2 distribution is coming shortly after ROS 2 Foxy. Like all other distributions this one needs a name. Unlike others this distribution will not have a fixed end date and so the name will stay with the ROS community for the foreseeable future. We’ve also decided to break the sequence and provide two potential first letter options: R and T. But stick with either R or T, no “Rapid Trionyx” or “Trivial Rhinoclemmys”.

Existing ROS 2 names and codenames:

I would prefer that the codename was still kept as “Rolling”, so Rolling <r-named-turtle>. Would still make a good logo and lets us continue with nomenclature developed in the REP.

ROS M Turtle Naming Brainstorming

+1 for Mecha! I like how Mecha Morenia rolls off the tongue, with the matching M’s and A’s forming an alliteration and a rhyme. Maybe I’d also just like to see more artwork of Mecha turtles. [image] op image credit

While I was rolling along on my bike, a name occurred to me:
Rolling Roling Rolling… Rawhide!

Still by far my favorite ROS distro artwork. Sometimes in slides I’ll remove the “C-turtle” from the logo and use it as an alias for ROS. All the robots running around is really great. The bioluminescence would be awesome.

Rolling Ridley also gets my vote.

Relevant trivia of the day! All Debian distributions are named after Toy Story characters. The rolling distribution (i.e. the bleeding edge, untested distribution) is named “Sid”, after the kid next door who spends all his time trying to break toys.
