It is with great regret that I have to announce that ROSCon JP 2020 has been cancelled.
Although the situation in Japan appears to be improving, and many parts of the country have lifted their emergency declarations, the emergency declaration for Tokyo, where ROSCon JP 2020 will take place, remains in force. We do expect it to be lifted soon, but the situation is still fluid. It is very hard to predict at this point what the status of the pandemic will be in September. Even if the situation is better than now, the risk of a second wave means that the sensible course is to avoid gathering a large number people together for some time.
We considered a virtual event, but ultimately decided against it as we feel that a ROSCon-style event is far more than just the presentations. More than anything else, it is a chance to meet and network with other ROS developers. We also already have a regular Japanese presentation event that has been successfully brought into a virtual format by our amazing community creator, @youtalk. Thus we feel that a virtual ROSCon JP would be trying to fill a gap in the Japanese ROS community that doesn’t exist, while leaving a gaping ravine with the things it couldn’t do.
We will be holding ROSCon JP 2021 in September, 2021, and have already penciled in a date. Stay tuned for more details later this year.
