ROSCon Spain 2024 Report

Hi all,

before the end of the year, we would like to share with all of you the report on ROSCon Spain 2024 (better late than never).

ROSCon ES 2024 was held in Seville, Spain on September 19-20, 2024, at the premises of Universidad Pablo de Olavide.

We had 235 participants. The participants came from a variety of institutions, including both academic institutions (including universities, 132 attendants) and companies (103 attendants). The language of the conference was Spanish.

Workshops / Tutorials

We hosted a total of 10 workshop/tutorial sessions on September 19th, 2024 throughout the entire day. The three parallel session rooms we prepared were packed full with attendants in a way that greatly surpassed our expectations, and forced us to borrow additional tables, seating and power strips from other nearby rooms and even purchase additional equipment in order to ensure everyone could comfortably attend!

The workshops covered a variety of topics relevant to the ROS community, including technologies such as Behavior Trees, Docker, Foxglove, Gazebo or Rust, as well as practical programming using both simulators and real robots during the tutorials.

Talks

We finally had 58 talks. We hosted the talks on September 20, 2024 in two parallel tracks taking place in different conference halls. The talks were organized in several sessions:

  • ROS Development and Deployment
  • Navigation
  • Model-Driven Design (MDD) for ROS
  • HRI and Social Robotics
  • Simulation
  • Multi-Robot Systems
  • Mapping and SLAM
  • Robotic Platforms
  • Drones
  • ROS Network Layer
  • Applications
  • Robotic Manipulation

All talks (in Spanish) can be found here.

Sponsors

The organization committee held a call for sponsors. A total of 12 entities enthusiastically responded to our call.

We provided a dedicated exhibition hall for sponsors to give lively demonstrations and hold discussions with participants throughout the day. The exhibition hall was well-attended, with participants talking to exhibitors even during the invited talks.

Final remarks

Building on the 2023 local event held in Madrid, this year’s ROSCon ES was a resounding success that clearly demonstrates the interest and enthusiastic participation of the Spanish robotics research community, both academic and industrial, in the ROS ecosystem.

We would like to warmly thank every participant, every sponsor, every workshop organizer, every speaker, every organization member and volunteer for the incredible experience we’ve delivered together.

Next year’s ROSCon ES 2025 will be held in Barcelona, and we can barely contain our excitement!

I wish a happy new year to everybody!
