ZOA Robotics
We engineer robots in a new way – dynamic by design, lightweight, safe.
Elegantly simple hardware backed by cutting-edge software.
We are an ambitious, multidisciplinary team focused on shipping a revolutionary product and we are looking for versatile people who can hit the ground running and help us make robots commonplace. We have built and proven prototypes and we are again growing our team as we iterate towards our MVP.
For all engineering roles, criteria include:
-
You must be inspired by our mission of affordable bio-inspired robots. What we are doing is hard but not impossible. It won’t be worth the effort unless you love it.
-
You must be grounded in theory but also hands-on and practical.
-
You are not expected to have direct robotics experience; but you should have a track record of rapidly and deeply learning new spaces.
-
We believe small teams of relative generalists beat large teams of hyper-specialists. You should know, or want to learn, how every part of a robot works and be excited by the prospect of working across traditional engineering disciplines.
The Role
You will work alongside our ML lead to develop all aspects of robot software and systems: implementing low-level controllers, designing safe behaviours and advancing autonomy.
Flexibility, ability to learn, innovate and solve problems are key for this position.
Responsibilities include establishing onboard sensing and control on ARM microcontrollers (using C), implementing of machine-learned behaviours onto the robot’s linux system and developing vision, navigation and control software.
The role also includes on-the-job training and responsibility for PCB design, eventually growing to responsibility for all electrical aspects of the robot and working alongside the hardware lead on hardware design.
Salary: £38,000 to £40,000 + equity. The role is based in Hackney Wick, East London.
Requirements
- Experience as a software developer (≥1 yr) working on code as part of a team
- Experience developing for micro-controllers or similar low-level work (e.g. device driver coding)
- Graduate in CS/EE/Mechatronics or equivalent numerate field
- Proactive team player with strong attention to detail
Desirable
- Experience with Python
- Experience with robot, joint or motor control
- Familiarity with linux environments
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques
- Experience with electrical PCB design
