We are seeking a full-time Robotics Software Engineer to join the Oxford Robotics Institute (ORI) in the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. The post is fixed term to the 31st December 2023.

We are looking for a dedicated Software Engineer to join the ORI. We have a large code base, which supports our robotic research activities which needs full-time support and development. ORI is made up of six research groups in a variety of fields including soft robotics, mobile navigation, task planning and walking robots, as well as underpinning research such as applied autonomy and estimation theory. Our work has application to monitoring of oil and gas infrastructure, urban mobility, space exploration and nuclear facility inspection.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and developing the codebases of the individual ORI groups as well as supporting their research in multiple domains. The candidate will also participate in field trials of ORI autonomous platforms, some of which will involve international travel.

You should possess a bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, engineering or a related subject as well as experience in software tool chains and build processes. In addition, you must have experience in C++ and Python and be a proficient user of Linux. Much of the codebase uses ROS, expertise with it would be highly desirable. You will be a clear communicator and have the ability to prioritise a busy workload. You will have demonstrable hands-on project experience, developing software as part of a small team that fulfils a functional specification on time and on budget.
