ROS Meetup in Pune, India

We are excited to announce the first of many ROS (Robot Operating System) meetups in India! The first meetup will be held in Pune in the 3rd week of January(exact date and venue will be announced soon)

The ROS community is a global network of individuals and organizations dedicated to the development and promotion of the ROS platform. ROS is an open source software framework that enables developers to easily build robot applications, and it has become a standard for robotics research and development.

Meetups like this are an important opportunity for the ROS community to come together, share knowledge and experiences, and collaborate on projects. They are also a great way for new users to learn about ROS and get involved in the community.

This will be a free open for all event half day event, which will include talks from industry and academia regarding open source contributions, research as well as how ROS is being used in industries. It will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with the speakers.

We are announcing a call for talk submissions for this meetup. If you have a talk or presentation which meets any of the following criteria, reach out to us @gsvikhe @PratNag or on rosmeetups@accelerationrobotics.com

All topics related to ROS (1 & 2) are invited.
Example topics include:

  • New packages/ frameworks
  • Insights/ improvements for existing packages
  • Case studies on unique ROS deployments/ use cases
  • Developments for specific robots, sensors, platforms
  • Competitions/ collaborations/ initiatives
  • ROS in commercial/ research/ teaching environments
  • Standards/ best practices/ development tools

As an organising partner and this being the first meetup, the talk submissions will be reviewed by Acceleration Robotics. We are also forming a committee which will consist of researchers from academia as well as industry persons who will be reviewing talk submissions for the subsequent meetups.

We are excited to announce that Harsh Deshpande(@ipa-hsd) will be speaking at our ROS meetup in Pune. Harsh who is originally from Pune received his masters degree in Mechatronics from Fachhochschule Aachen, Germany in 2017 and has since been working as a research engineer at the department of Robots and Assistive Systems at Fraunhofer IPA in Stuttgart, Germany.

Harsh has a strong background in software quality assurance and model based engineering, and has been involved in a number of projects related to the Robot Operating System (ROS). He is currently leading the ROS-Industrial Consortium in Europe along with its group leader, and has also been an early founding member of a robotics start-up in India in 2007.

For our meetup, Harsh will be presenting on the topic of “How to build a open source robotics ecosystem in a competitive environment”. In this talk, Harsh will discuss the challenges and opportunities of building an open source robotics ecosystem, and will provide insights and best practices for how to navigate a competitive landscape. Whether you are a robotics enthusiast, a professional in the field, or simply interested in learning more about the topic, we encourage you to join us for this exciting presentation.

We are excited to announce the venue and time for our upcoming ROS Developers meetup! The event will take place at College of Engineering, Pune(COEP) on 17th January 2023 at 5:30 P.M.

The event is organized in partnership with the Robot Study Circle at COEP, IEEE Robotics and Automation- Student Chapter and COEP’s startup incubator The Bhau Institute.

The agenda for the meetup has been finalized.

The meetup will feature a lineup of expert speakers including
Harsh Desphande(@ipa-hsd ), a research engineer at Fraunhofer IPA, will be presenting on the topic of “How to build a open source robotics ecosystem in a competitive environment”
Jegathesan Shanmugam, a lead robotics engineer at a major company, will be talking about the challenges and lessons learnt building a Real-Time Perception Pipeline with ROS2
Chirag Makwana, a robotics engineer at Acceleration Robotics, will be discussing his experience working with Open-RMF and how to use it for outdoor applications.
Pranshu Tople, Cofounder and Head of Tech at Rigbetel Labs, will present a pipeline for moving from Simulations to Hardware Implementation in ROS
The meetup will also provide a platform for students to showcase their experience working with ROS. Anuja and Samruddhi, students at COEP, will be talking about the challenges faced using ROS in an academic environment for research and prototyping.
The talks will be followed by a Panel Discussion and Q&A.
