Driver for Witmotion IMU sensors released

Dear ROS enthusiasts and contributors!

The ROS driver for TTL-compatible inertial pose estimation units (IMUs) manufactured by WitMotion Shenzhen Co.,Ltd is now released and available for installation from ros-testing repository branch for melodic and noetic ROS 1 distributions.

The devices for which the driver is developed are dedicated to being useful for:

  • Drones
  • Wearable devices
  • Lightweight preassembled IMU modules

The driver was brought to open source for all of us by the Scientific Computing Group of Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste.

How to get started?

Check the GitHub repository of the package:

Contributions, bug reports, test reviews, and pull requests are always encouraged.

Congrats for the release! And thanks a lot for caring about ROS 1

As you’re now probably very knowledgeable about IMUs, could I ask you to have a look at the prepared REP for changing IMU messages? It has already been discussed for years and now it’s hopefully close to being finalized. Update Rep 145 (P II) by SteveMacenski · Pull Request #372 · ros-infrastructure/rep · GitHub . I think a fresh look would definitely help it.
