My name is Viktor, I’m currently writing my masters thesis about camera systems (covering topics like sensors, ISPs, APIs, and usages).
I’m currently writing the chapter on the different APIs that exist (Argus, libcamera, genicam, HAL3), as I’ve not really used these to a very large extent, I’d like to interview people who have.
There won’t be that many questions, I hope not to take much of your time. If you’re interested you can find me in the following way (in addition to here):
How can you list camera APIs and omit video4linux2, the de-facto standard for interacting with cameras under Linux? You may also want to call out librealsense separately, since RealSense cameras are probably still the most widely used 3d cameras in robotics at this point.
If you want people to contact you, you should probably make it as easy as possible to do that. I’d recommend a Google Form where people can sign up. I think you’ll get a lot more responses (but still very few) than suggesting IRC.
The list was more of an example, V4L2 is also included. Though we’re “moving” away from that a little bit with more complex cameras that need better support for ISP configuration which is difficult with V4L2 to my understanding.
Thank you for pointing me to realsense, I did not know about these. My knowledge is largely in normal cameras, though I wanted to learn more about robotics and the use cases there.
Though I do agree with you, the form is a great idea and can be found here: https://forms.gle/9XfB8QkNJQTM9WMv8. I did not really know what ways to contact me should be listed.
