Just to draw attention to it: this sync removes just about all MoveIt 2 packages from Rolling.

There is a release of MoveIt which I believe will resolve the present build issue which has not yet been bloomed for Rolling. Unfortunately I couldn’t block the sync any longer. But I’m working with the moveit team and I think we’re going to do another sync next week to restore it.

Any idea when the official docker image is updated? We noticed some update in rosdep from yesterday (that fixed linking of the new service_msgs package), but this update does not yet work in the docker image (that was updated 5 days ago).

The official ros images are updated when their base images (ubuntu, debian) are rebuilt:

so since their update was also 5 days ago, the ros:rolling image will be useless for almost a month now:/

I’ve started on working on an alternative workaround using COPY and TARGETARCH to try and enable complete version pinning of ROS apt packages, allowing us to bust the build cache for each sync:

I could use some help ironing out some bugs, partly due to how many meta packages seem to be missing from supported platform architectures, before appealing to the DockerHub librarians to again review.

Thank you for your effort, I think it will definitelly help to maintain the images consistent.
However, when I build the core and base images locally, with your modification, I am still not able to colcon build a simple workspace with custom interfaces - it fails on not knowing service_msgs. If I install that package manually, it does not bring in its dependencies (rcl/service_introspection.h). It is probably linked to the rosdep update that happened yesterday, but I still haven’t been able to find what exactly changed there. So this will probably have to bee included in the dockerfile modification.

Interesting note, the same behavior happens with the osrf/ros2:nightly image, which should be the latest version.

Not sure you applied the extended template changes, but if you’d like to test, the PR is split for readability:

That aside, if needed, you can apt upgrade and rosdep update from your own downstream images:

This insures you’ve installed the latest packages regardless, even if it adds to the image’s disk size.

Thank you, the --with-new-pkgs flag does the thing - service_msgs and their dependencies are installed now in the image. A usefull addition to our pipeline.

The ament_cmake_nose package was deprecated and later removed in Remove the ament_cmake_nose package by cottsay Β· Pull Request #435 Β· ament/ament_cmake Β· GitHub. nose itself has not had a release since 2015 and is no longer recommended by its own documentation. Colcon uses pytest to run python unittests and most of the ROS Infrastructure projects have been able to switch to running tests with pytest instead of nose without changing any test code. Using ament_cmake_pytest may also Just Work :tm: for you.
