The next ROS 2 Rust Meeting will be 2025-02-10T14:00:00Z

The meeting room is tentatively at https://meet.google.com/rxr-pvcv-hmu , however, we’ve had technical difficulties getting rooms up and running. If the room needs to change, we will update this thread with the new info!

Please note the meeting link has permanently moved to https://meet.google.com/rxr-pvcv-hmu and that is the same meeting link given by the Join with Google Meet button in the OSRF Community Calendar event for the Rust Community Meeting.

Thanks, I just updated the link in the post.

Attendees

  • Sam Privett
  • Esteve Fernandez
  • Jacob Hassold
  • Grey
  • Nathan Wiebe Neufeldt
  • Chaim Lukas Maier
  • Kimberly Mcguire
  • Natesh Narain
  • Saurabh Kamat
  • Scott Logan

Notes

  • Grey’s PR for execution structure is ready to be reviewed
  • Nathan paused actions work because of changes to executor API changes
  • Scott Logan was working on a standalone package to “compose” a bunch of packages locally
    • Has an executable you can run which searches system paths to find crates available locally
    • Somewhat stuck on circular dependencies, but doesn’t block the path to shipping debians
    • Will begin testing with buildfarm packages
  • Esteve asked Scott about submitting the rosidl_generator_rs to the build farm for humble and jazzy
    • Scott mentioned this decision will likely be sent to the respective “ROS Boss” due to its insertion in the critical path
    • But endorsed that it can be added to rolling to gather data
  • Esteve mentioned that the generated rust code has a compile time dependency on rosidl_runtime_rs
    • Grey emphasized that this dependency would only be pulled in during a build that explicitly includes the generated rust code
  • Esteve mentioned getting the generator upstream would help us remove some of these vendored packages
  • FOSDEM presentation from Julia went well, the room was packed
  • Sam Presentation
  • Kimberly asked if anyone has run things on Windows
    • Esteve mentioned a while ago we had an attempt to add windows to the CI
    • Scott mentioned that colcon-cargo tests run on windows regularly
    • Grey mentioned that this should be straight forward as long as the build script can find rclrs
