TL;DR: Does anyone (@allenh1?) know why there are different repos/maintainers for the rplidar-ros package on different ROS 2 distros, and why the newer distros have older versions?
I am finally updating my tutorials to support Jazzy and noticed that the rplidar-ros package seems to be derived from the official repo on humble and @allenh1 's repo on Jazzy and newer. This is in the rosdistro source line and poking through the release repo it seems to be correct (not sure if they even can be in conflict?)
If Hunter’s repo was newer I would understand, but the Slamtec one appears to be more up to date. If I recall correctly, the official repo was previously behind but eventually caught up and moved ahead.
It seems perhaps this has been noticed before and rectified for humble but not other distros?
I’ve confirmed the official repo builds on Jazzy although I haven’t tested it yet.
If anyone has some insight that would be appreciated, thanks.
