Maritime Community Group Meeting Nov 2024: Trisect, An Open Source Underwater Camera

This month, Aaron Marburg, director of the Ocean Perception and Autonomy Laboratory at the University of Washington Applied Physics Lab, will be presenting the Trisect Underwater Camera, a “three-camera computer vision development platform based on off-the-shelf (and whenever possible, Open Source) hardware and software.”

Trisect has been used in numerous academic projects by multiple institutions with the goal of enabling underwater perception research. For instance, pointclouds received from the camera have been used to support underwater grasp synthesis for underwater manipulation. We are especially excited about this sensor platform because of the critical need for underwater sensor modalities. The Trisect documentation includes both information regarding its ROS-based API and hardware design.

Below is an example of the camera output (obtained underwater)

We look forward to seeing everyone there!
