I would like to propose a new “Simulation” category for ROS Discourse. As far as I know there is no “Gazebo Discourse” and I feel like the latest news about the development and new features don’t reach out to users very easily, and given that some big changes are bound to come with the release of Ignition Acropolis, which will (as I understand) replace Gazebo soon-ish, I think it would be relevant to have a place to discuss simulation related topics.
A suggested summary would be:
The Simulation SIG is the location for all topics related to robotics simulation, Gazebo, Ignition and discussions on simulation-driven robotics.
This is not a from me, but I wanted to link to community.gazebosim.org which is actually a “Gazebo Discourse” (or at least: it uses the same underlying infrastructure).
It seems to not be very well known and also not very active, but I’m not part of the Gazebo community, so it could very well be that I’m just ignorant here.
Thanks for the link, I had no idea. It doesn’t seem to very active, indeed. Maybe improving visibility of this Discourse would be then the way to go there.
I would be also interested from knowing about other simulation solutions from people, too. But that is just a personal interest of mine.
After ROSCon I noticed a lot of interest on getting a more organized group for discussing this simulation topic (Gazebo and non-Gazebo related). Anyone interested in this proposal?
@musamarcusso in Autoware there is a simulation working group: https://discourse.ros.org/c/autoware => search for “Simulation Working Group”. While the use case that they tackle are autonomous cars, they do talk a lot about assets generation, interfaces, CI, …
