3M is seeking a Research Engineer, Robotics Focus for 3M’s Corporate Research Process Laboratory (CRPL).
Job Summary:
The person hired for the position of Advanced or Senior Research Engineer, Robotics Focus will work in a cross-functional team-based and collaborative environment, will act as a principal investigator and will develop innovative robotics technologies. This position offers a unique opportunity to promote rapid commercialization of new products through successful technology scale-up.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
· Development of novel applied robotics and/or automation techniques to enable new and unique products or increased performance / customer experience
· Drive successful technology scale-up from laboratory to manufacturing and assist with troubleshooting process and product quality issues
· Effectively document, communicate, and disseminate research results through the framework of 3M’s new technology and product introduction programs
· Provide robotics expertise to support manufacturing operations and transfer technology to 3M’s technical community through consulting and teaching
Basic Qualifications:
· Possess or in the last year of pursuing a M.S. or Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on 4.0 scale
· Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to excel in cross-functional environments
· Must be highly motivated, self-starting and a creative problem solver
Preferred Qualifications:
· Evidence of strong, hands-on, experimental skills
· Experience generating and protecting intellectual property
· Skills relating to the following: ROS (Robot Operating System), industrial robotics, C++ software development, open source software development, Linux operating system
· Knowledge in the following areas: path planning, localization, computer vision, machine learning
Location: Maplewood, MN
Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international
Relocation: Is authorized
