I am currently planning to develop an Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) to tackle warehouse transportation challenges. This is a project for my company, with the goal of applying it in industrial settings to enhance efficiency and automate transportation processes. In the past, I have built mobile robots and gained experience in mechanical design, electronics, SLAM, navigation, and other areas. I am familiar with the core technologies involved, but the scale of this current project is much larger, requiring more careful planning and organization. I need to map out a detailed project roadmap that will guide the entire development process—from initial design, testing, and deployment to future improvements.

I’ve tried searching online for examples of AMR development plans, but haven’t found anything specific. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could share their own AMR project plans or direct me to helpful resources. Thank you so much for your assistance!

I guess the first question would be: why do you want to develop your own AMR? There are a lot of vendors of AMRs for warehouses and, assuming you ruled those out already, it would be important to understand what your specific needs are that aren’t met by those, because those special needs will likely be your most challenging thing to solve. The first thing on your development plan should then be to de-risk that aspect, e.g., through rapid prototyping and testing.
