In sequel to an underwater ROS workshop in 2018 at WHOI (Underwater ROS Workshop @ Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution), a virtual Maritime BoF at ROS World 2021, and regular monthly meetings in the ROS Maritime Working Group established in the past year, we would like to make this BoF accessible to the most people by holding a hybrid virtual/physical format.
Traditionally, BoF sessions at ROSCon are informal hallway chats where developers and users pick a topic of discussion, i.e. a formal-sounding excuse, to gather during coffee breaks.
The maritime BoF session provides an opportunity for maritime robotics (both underwater and surface) users of ROS (2) / Gazebo-classic / new Gazebo to informally discuss their work and needs, to find potential collaborators, and for developers to hear feedback on software and tools.
New this year: Based on the attendance last year, to efficiently use the short time available for the BoF, we will have breakout discussions on a few broad topics, to move the common interests of the community forward. See the planning document for tentative agenda, format, and details on the breakout groups. Scroll to the bottom for suggested discussion topics.
If you would like more group interactions like this, we invite you to come to the monthly ROS Maritime WG meetings, which are regularly announced in the Maritime category on ROS Discourse.
We hope to see you there.
