Temporarily Suspending Nav2 Working Group Meeting

Hi!

We’re all hard at work improving ROS 2 and Nav2! However, the last ~4-5 working group meetings have had a very small number of attendees as the usual attendees now have different calls setup with the maintainers for various projects or are caught up with other efforts. Nav2 isn’t updating at the same pace it once did when we started a bi-weekly working group meeting – with dozens or more PRs merged a week as we were working on initial stability and capabilities. Things are broadly stable now and while the project is still changing and improving daily, its a different kind of development now with production users scaling up and not requiring as many brand new features immediately.

As such, these meetings are currently not a great use of time and resources. So, I’d like to propose that we temporarily suspend the working group for the next several weeks to spend some time taking a breather. With the recent announcement of OSRA and the new official working groups, it might also be good to take a page out of their book for Nav2’s working group to set ourselves up for long-term success.

When we come back over the summer, I’ll plan to schedule a new time, likely on a monthly schedule, and address formatting issues to make sure its providing value to the community as both a venue for questions and comments as well as learning about how to work with Nav2, ROS 2 for mobile robotics applications.

If you have any questions or comments, please let us know below. We’re also happy to hear your suggestions for how we can improve the meetings and provide value to the Nav2 user community.

Happy navigating,

Steve

As always, you can find us anytime on the Nav2 Slack! We are by no means disappearing or stopping development!
